In my final attack on Frog Village, I found farmer frogs tending to their fields in between fights with enemy frog soldiers. NintendoWorldReport - Joshua Robin - 8 / 10 Only slightly hampered by its brevity and excessive backtracking, Tails of Iron should be played by all fans of Soulslike and other 2D games.Īny game that tosses in a lovely homage to 90s wrestling via its medieval arena combat portions is at least worth your good attention. The world building, combat, audio, and nearly every other aspect of the game is executed masterfully. Overall, Tails of Iron is a fantastic experience. Tails of Iron may be an indie title, but this Souls-like RPG sure hits like an AAA experience in every sense. I enjoyed every moment spent in the Rat Kingdom, and can only hope to see more from Redgi, his brothers, and this fantastic world. The battle between the frogs and rats is intense, the combat is challenging - yet fair - and the wide variety of equipment is sure to make any RPG fan excited to experiment with new loadouts. Placing rats at the forefront of an adventure game was a bold move, and serves the world that Odd Bug Studio has created immensely. Tails of Iron is a fantastic, brutal, and gorgeous game. It’s the combat that’s the real star of the show here though, encouraging you to keep an eye on the various quest boards even when the tasks they offer only send you to the same few locations. It’s easy to warm to Redgi despite him not having a voice, which is quite an achievement in itself, and as you travel around his kingdom, fighting off bugs, frogs and other pesky creatures, you’ll come to care about his fate. Tails of Iron isn’t the biggest adventure in the world – while it has numerous maps to explore, they’re not particularly expansive – but it does have a lot of heart. Out of humble materials, Odd Bug Studios have created a rich, beautiful, and thrilling fantasy world in Tails of Iron. Kudos to the developers of this game.GameSkinny - Josh Broadwell - 9 / 10 stars It didn't feel rushed but it could have had way more meat in it. More meaningful DLC should be a must for this game but I would have preferred a longer story. I feel like there was a lot of potential that wasn't exploited but I can understand also wanting to publish your game already. It serves its purpose and it kept me interested enough to pay attention to it. I would have loved to see them replaced with something actually relevant to the story. Game design was very good as well although I didn't like the grinding quests. A little bit Hollow Knight but with way less platforming and metroidvania. * Controls took me a little to adjust but overall they were very well mapped. Would have loved some additional stats for your build, such as stamina. Loved the different armor types and how you had to adapt to each fight. * Great art style combined with good audio design and the voice of Geralt as the narrator. It looked cool but from past experiences it could go either way. I was on the fence on getting this game during the Steam summer sale.
